MWMC new branding image and messaging

PROJECT DETAILS:

Minnesota Women in Marketing and Communications (MWMC) has been a viable professional organization supporting women in Marcom careers with professional development, learning and networking opportunities since 2006.

Through research, member surveys, demographics and talking with fellow members, the MWMC board discovered there was a disconnect between its branding and the energy and passion members bring to the organization.

Arriving at a fresh look and feel for MWMC meant finding its story and focusing on shared attributes among members. As an organization, MWMC has a diverse membership. Women hold a variety of marketing and communications positions and range in career experience from college gradates just stating out to seasoned professionals. What members share in common are enjoying building new connections, having professions based in marketing communications; they come together in a spirit of collaboration, have the opportunity to be challenged — to step out of comfort zones and celebrate members’ successes.

MWMC new logo and branding

My objective was to create a vibrant new look with a bright color palette and typography to represent the “mosaic blend” the MWMC membership has become. The branding re-fresh was rolled out over the early months of 2014. Response from members and the board has been extremely positive to down right exuberant.

BELOW: Examples of the newly branded MWMC WordPress website. (Launch date April 2015). It’s been streamlined for easier use and more robust members-only section.

NOTE: Minnesota Women In Marketing & Communications had a really good 12-year run as an organization. Due to intense competition for membership, the board at MWMC decided to disband and asked to be absorbed by another organization (Team Women MN) with similar values and offerings as MWMC.

Kristin and I worked together for the relaunch of MWMC’s website. As Art Director, the website re-development fit into her larger role of re-designing MWMC’s visual identity and brand. I had not worked closely with an AD before and was not sure what to expect beyond a great looking logo and nice site design. Instead, Kristin’s talent and vision blew me away. She produced a deeply thoughtful design that considered organization’s core tenets and values and integrated them into the design.

I still remember the beautiful presentation she gave to introduce the new logo and the “oohs” and “aahs” from the room —definitely an ideal response.

Kristin brought the same level of attention and precision to the rest of the website, which looks spectacular. She even garnered praise from our development vendor, who credited her designs with bringing a special polish and beauty he was not used to seeing. Lastly, Kristin is a great partner – kind, flexible and extremely easy to work with. I highly recommend Kristin as your next Art Director!
