Professional Editors Network
Art Direction, Website Design, Print Design
Professional Editors Network, (PEN) was in the process of re-branding itself away from an antiquated logo design that didn’t represent the organization well and were eager to incorporate its new branding into a completely new website.
PEN asked me to design a better functioning website with a searchable talent directory, password protected members’ only section and online join registration and payment system. The first impression of their new logo gave me mixed reactions. Was it better than what they previously had? The new logo looked off balance, but once I began applying it to the web design, I had to embrace its strong character and incorporated the “editor’s red line” from the logo to reinforce its meaning as a branding element throughout the website. The homepage banner is designed to change out to promote upcoming member events and book signings.

Professional Editors Network (PEN) was founded by a group of editing students in 1984. PEN maintains a diverse membership involving editors, writers, proofreaders, indexers, book layout specialists, and others. Members are either self-employed or work on staff. But all work with words. PEN allows professional editors to share knowledge, exchange job leads, market their services, and grow professionally. PEN’s website members’ directory allows businesses to find editors with the expertise and skills sets to match project needs.
